About us

The Facilities Inquiry is an independent inquiry into sport and recreation facilities in the UK. Its purpose is to look into the world of these facilities, take views from the public and from experts and come up with a range of recommendations designed to improve the provision of and access to our sport and leisure facilities.

What do we mean by facilities?

The Inquiry is considering facilities in the widest sense of the term. These might be facilities for pursuits like rock climbing or sea-kayaking – mountains ranges or the coast - or facilities where people can do yoga or play badminton, like leisure centres or gyms. The definition the panel will use is any place where people do sport or enjoy leisure.

Who is on the panel?

The panel is chaired by the top sports broadcaster and commentator John Inverdale, who, as a passionate sports enthusiast has a long-standing interest in making sure people have access to sporting opportunities. He is supported by people drawn from a range of backgrounds in order to reflect the spectrum of people with an interest in the issue. Please visit the panel page to find out more about each of them.

Support for the Facilities Inquiry

We are delighted to say that the aims of the Facilities Inquiry are supported by the three main political parties in England. CCPR, the independent alliance of the governing and representative bodies of sport and recreation, will be providing the inquiry with administrative support.
